The columns, which form the entrance to the main branch of the Concord Library had considerable rot on their wooden base moldings that rested on stone base blocks. The challenge was to replace the moldings without removing the columns We turned out new bases, divided into four sections and split in half. We cut out and removed half of the rotted section and slid in half of the replacement section. We then removed the second half and installed the rest of the new molding. While the original moldings were made of pine we replaced these moldings with mahogany. Once installed the entire column was painted, making our repair invisible.
