The Art Deco brass metal ornament on the exterior of the building, although previously coated to resist corrosion, had deteriorated over time resulting in greenish-black deposits on the lower portion of the entrance. The conservation process began with the removal of this oxidized coating followed by neutralization of the surface. Since the oxidized sections had disrupted the grained brass surface, we re-grained these areas with a fine abrasive. Following this we again neutralized the surface to remove any tarnish and applied a protective coating to the surface. This process was also repeated on the elevator cab doors, surrounds and cabs on the first floor. As a result of this work the original appearance of the ornamental metalwork was conserved and restored.
