The Art Deco brass metal ornament on the exterior of the building, although previously coated to resist corrosion, had deteriorated over time. This resulted in greenish-black deposits on the lower portion of the entrance. The conservation process began with the removal of this oxidized coating, followed by neutralization of the surface. Since the oxidized sections had disrupted the grained brass surface, we regrained these areas with a fine abrasive. Following this, we again neutralized the surface to remove any tarnish and applied a protective coating to the surface. This process was also repeated on the elevator cab doors, surrounds, and cabs on the first floor. As a result of this historic metalwork conservation, the original appearance of the metal ornament was restored.
