The conservation of the Wilderstein dining room wood paneling and plaster ornament involved removal of dust and soot, restoration of failed plaster ornament and repair of failed wood finishes on part of the ceiling due to a radiator failure. Since the original finish on much of the mahogany panels and ornament was sound, it required cleaning and conservation with a cotton ball moistened with very dilute non-ionic detergent. The plaster required consolidation with an acrylic liquid and in-painting with appropriate brown reversible paints to restore its original color. The ceiling required cleaning and removal of a heavy soot layer followed by application of shellac to moderate the water stain. Remaining cleaned areas were protected by the application of brown wax.
